Buddy is Looking for a Family

Meet Buddy!  He is up for adoption at The Healing Species in Orangeburg.  There is a story about why I am posting about Buddy on my blog.

Last fall when we had to have our elderly Golden Retriever put to sleep after months of illness and care and no improvement, I looked at many dogs on petfinder.com.  There were four that I especially liked from seeing the pictures, reading about them, and talking with the people at the rescue groups.  Buddy was one of the four.  Our decision was to adopt Sydney who came to us from Diamond in the Ruff in Seneca, SC.  There was another dog from Georgia, and one in Columbia, SC. Out of the four, I only met the one in Columbia, SC, and Sydney, prior to making my decision. The dog from Georgia and the one in Columbia, SC, were adopted months and months ago and every now and then I would visit petfinder to see if Buddy had found a home.  He has not.  He is about 3 years old now and has lived at the rescue place (which is really, really nice) for almost his entire life.

Today I saw why he has been passed over so much. He is extremely shy, especially around anyone new, so the other dogs might rush up to great you and lick your hand while wagging their tails, but Buddy is not one of those. He did come up to sniff me after awhile and allowed me to pet him, but he is going to take some work in terms of making friends with him. He is, however, bonded and responsive to one of the ladies there, so he is a dog that can bond with his owner and be trained: he will need someone with lots of patience and who uses positive reinforcement and absolutely no physical punishment.
Anyway, here are a few pictures and I hope he can find a home.  Excuse me for not getting even better pictures, he was moving around quite a bit and I didn't want to use flash so these were the best I came up with! He is a very pretty dog, sort of a reddish brown like a fox with white markings.  He weighs about 47 lbs.

I'll be happy to tell you more of my impression of him if you contact me or get in touch with The Healing Species. They not only rescue pets, but put on programs at the local schools.  Very nice people!

I've Been Quilting...

It seems like a long time has gone by since I posted quilt pictures, but maybe it just "seams" that way!  Anyway, I took some pictures and one of these quilts is still in progress - yes, a few pins are still in the fabric as I finish it up! I really like these colors together.

The other quilt was completed today and has a totally different look to it.  I know some quilters have favorite colors or styles, I like it all!

One of the really good things about Quilt #2 is that I found the perfect thread color for hand stitching the binding.  It blended in beautifully with the binding and the backing.  I wish that was always the case.

I hope you were about to work on some quilts, today --- now it's time to cook dinner.

Photo Stampede!

Today I asked my husband to take a picture of me, my dog, and my cat for my blog and to use on Etsy.  Oh, my... I had no idea it would be such a hassle.  Both are good pets, but the dog is a year old and was really excited about this whole idea and the cat did not want to be held that close to the dog for that long.  It was a circus! Then, too, I wanted a quilt in the picture so I was trying to prevent any damage to the quilt even if it is an old one that is pretty badly worn; it still made a nice backdrop.

So, here is the best of what we got.  There were lots of blurred shots and me leaning my head way back so the dog would not lick me face in the middle of the picture.

I decided none were good enough to keep on Etsy as a permanent reminder of the day, but I thought I would share one here. As you see, both pets were adopted. They don't like to know they were not originally part of the family! Our dog is Sydney; we don't know what kind of a dog she is.  We think she may be some combination of Greyhound and Australian Cattle Dog.  They had her listed as an Australian Shepherd Mix when we adopted her, but we doubt that's it.  Hershey is my cat.  He was listed as a Himalayan Mix.  He is probably either that or a Ragdoll.  He has the coloring of a seal point Siamese, but the body style of a Persian. He has beautiful blue eyes, but you can't tell that in the picture. Yes, he was saying, "Let me outta here!"

Disappearance

I clicked on my blog this morning and discovered that my picture had disappeared.  Not much of a mystery though.  I had deleted some pictures a few days ago and forgot that it was how I had linked that picture into my blog.  No problem.  I am back at my post today!

I hope everyone is doing well. I am finally starting to feel much better following my surgery last week.  I went to my writers' group meeting last evening and it was really well attended and we had lots of fun sharing our book segments and short stories.

I hope to find time to quilt later today!

Preemie Quilt

Charity Quilt Top

I finished making this quilt top a week or so ago, but am just now getting a picture posted.  It's a preemie top for my guild's charity endeavors.  It sewed together really fast and I hope some dear preemie will really enjoy it.  I love to make preemie quilts since my triplet grandsons were preemies when they were born.  You wouldn't know it to look at them now!

I am still doing a bit of healing following my oral surgery on Wednesday, but can say this procedure went better than many of them do!
